She adds: “There’s no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention … it was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it’s a provocative word and I apologize if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me.”
The ‘N’ word has been a word that people have been debating over for some time. There are people that find it offensive because of its historical context in relation to the African American struggle against racism and bigotry and there are also people that feel like they have conquered the negative connotations of the word by changing the meaning and making it a form of “endearment”. Those that are against the use of the word are right for feeling offended. (What’s next ... calling women the ‘B’ word as a form of endearment? Oh, yeah people already do that.) The people that do use the word and have made it a word that crosses all social, economic and racial lines, largely because of music and entertainment, might have their point too. (I guess.) We can argue until the cows come home.
However, was it okay for the 55-year-old ‘Vogue’ Caucasian Pop singer to use the ‘N’ word?
Madonna is very aware of how the media would take the use of the word on Instagram regardless if you were referring to your 13-year-old white son, Rocco Ritchie. We cannot police how you talk in the house, but when you publicly use a word that has been hurtful to so many people, what is your motive?
Do you have an album coming out Madonna? Was this a publicity stunt?
It seems African Americans have been used as a punching bag whenever it is convenient. People are not throwing around the word “faggot”. They have campaigns against the use of the word, but it’s cool to say the ‘N’ word on Instagram!?

We all know that Madonna is the queen of reinventing herself and being edgy. She doesn’t hesitate to “express” herself. She has been able to cross the line time and time again. (Remember the pointy bra?) Every time she did push the envelope, it never seemed old, but is this situation a little different?
Has Madonna crossed the line or is this a word that is going to be used on CNN one day? Is it now just a part of our everyday public language that we are comfortable with regardless how people feel?
